Eyes That Can See Through

As I grow, one by one my initial dreams start to look naïve. I see through the dark complications. I grow.

When we were young, we all had high ambitions. They taught us in kindergartens to be friendly, to be honest and to play fair. We thought all the adults had the collage of virtues incorporated into them. We could rarely, if not never see through the adults’ mind. We thought they’re geniuses.

I see the politicians, I wanted to be like them, making stirring speeches. All that was needed is to be intelligent and work hard. I watch sports and competitions, I started dreaming of being as good as the participants, bathed in glory. All that was needed is talent and training. I thought the world was a fairytale. All we need to do is to use the values they’ve thought us, and we’re bound to succeed.

A few years later, things haven’t changed much. The geniuses seem to have countless lessons on life for us. They never run out of stories, never run out of experiences to be passed down. They tell us the evil of others, about conmen, and how we can infer and protect ourselves. Through the lenses they equipped us, we start seeing through others.

Time flies, we start seeing the imperfections of the society. The world is not a fairytale. Just following what they taught us is not enough. We start to have new goals, more mature and materialistic ones. We remove a few layers of the lenses given to us. We slowly start to develop our ability to see on our own.

Now, still with the shades of those completely removed lenses, we use our own eyes to see. They are still geniuses. Everyone who can’t see through them are being played, those few who can are agonizingly helpless. They have to live with it. Some of our goals are like mice’s goal of getting the cheese, they could have spent nights observing, practicing, planning and getting support, but it’s all a set-up. They can never get the cheese. They are just victims. They can’t outwit the humans. Even if they can, they can’t outmuscle them. Till they evolve.

I realize the complications as my limitless experience bag is being filled. I see the big picture and have big goals. Most things troubling others are minor to me. My composure seldom quivers. My hope seldom fades. I am an optimist.

“Life is a comedy for those who think... and a tragedy for those who feel.”

I Have finally Decided to Post this, one of my Favourite works. It's up to your Interpretations.

重逢

姜沛村，莱佛士书院

俗话说：“天下无不散之宴席”。是的，相聚的时间总是短暂的, 无论是如何的不忍面对离别, 还是得说再见。然而，没有离别的忧伤, 就没有相逢的喜悦；没有思念的痛苦，就没有重逢的感动。如果不说再见,如何能够再见？

公园里有一棵老枫树，树干挺直、高耸入云，茂盛的叶子每年秋天都会变色。红色、橙色、黄色、绿色，看上去都是些梦幻般的浪漫色彩。

有一个美丽的女孩。她那炯炯的双眼像是汪着的两坛深泉水。她的身材轻盈玲珑，手指与小腿尤其美丽，细长、白嫩。走起路时仿佛踏着风的步伐，飘逸的披肩长发飘动时像是飞舞着的蒲公英。

枫树很喜欢女孩到它身边玩耍。看着她和同伴在一起无忧无虑地玩着一些它不懂得游戏，它的心里不由得感到无限的喜悦；听着她银铃般的笑声，枫树的心里有一种仿佛融化了的感觉，他认为，那就是所谓的音乐。它更喜欢女孩一个人静静地靠着它，坐在树阴下的时候。女孩柔软的头发轻轻地搔着树干，它能看到她浓密的长睫毛，还能嗅到女孩身上散发的阵阵幽香。他们是这样的靠近。不知不觉地，枫树已对女孩产生了一种无法抑制的依恋。枫树以为这就是所谓的恋爱。

直到有一天，女孩不是和同伴来，也不是自己一个人来，而是和一个男孩子一起来。那天，枫树才痛心地发觉自己并不是女孩恋爱的对象。

女孩看起来与以往不同，眼睛迷蒙，脸颊抹着红晕，嘴角带着一丝兴奋而又不安的微笑。男孩手里拿着一束洁白柔美的花，花朵馥郁的香气弥漫在空气之中，闻起来令人迷眩。

男孩告诉女孩，她就像这束栀子花，纯洁又美好。而他愿意永远庇护她。女孩接过花束，安静但激动地搂着男孩的颈项……

一阵清风吹过，带着栀子花的香气在空中旋绕，两人似乎无比的欢乐。然而，枫树知道自己再也看不到女孩了。

果然，女孩不再来公园了。心碎的老枫树每天尽量伸长它的树干，希望能眺望得更远一点，以便寻找女孩的踪迹。不过，牢牢捉紧土地的树根无情地限制了它的视野。它无比痛苦地想要从地下抽出它的命脉，只为能在向上移动一点，好延伸追寻女孩的视线。它是多么痴迷地渴望与女孩重逢啊！

日复一日，渐渐地，老枫树不再尽量挺直伸展它的树干了。相反，它所有的枝干都懒散地垂落了下来，叶子也不由得开始变得枯黄了。它不想再看了，看得越远，失望越深。它只想将自己深深地埋藏起来，躲在安全的黑暗之中，正如它还是一颗种子那样。它认为，或许，这样会减少一点自己的烦恼、自己的伤痛。只不过在黑暗中，它一次又一次反复回味着栀子花的香气。那是代表女孩的气味。只要那股香气从记忆中旋绕而出，它就仿佛再次感觉到女孩飘动的发丝搔着它的树干，或又一次听到女孩天真的笑声。它多少次在梦中微微嗅到那股气味，猛然醒来，才发觉梦想在现实面前总是那么的不堪一击。

年复一年，突然有一天，那股熟悉而又令人心痛的香味猛然钻进了老枫树的每一根茎脉，让垂着的枫树突然从黑暗中惊醒过来！

是的，没错，这一定是她！还有谁会有这种美好的芳香？老枫树睁大了眼睛，使出全身的力气，挺直了树干，把所有枝叶伸展了起来。它终于看到女孩了！它与女孩重逢了！女孩再一次坐在树下，老枫树的全身枝干充满了无限的生机与活力；它的脑海里充满了以往无比美好的回忆与追思，它的心里充满了非笔墨可形容的欣喜、感动。老枫树终于圆梦了！同时，它也忽然悟出了：

暂时的离别是为了重逢时的喜悦。

Another Dark, Lonely, Silent Night...

Overcome with fatigue after a full day of activities, nevertheless, still thinking about her. What am I supposed to do now? Shall I just keep quiet and wait? No, I don’t have the patience.

But wait, if ‘tis true love, why mind waiting for a while? As a good friend has said “Do you want to hold her hand for a year, or be with each other for a life time?” it makes me reflect. Indeed, if it’s a lifelong love, why mind this short period of time? But once again, what if she has fallen for someone else in this period? I do notice a few signals of intent to someone else, but am I being too paranoid again? Inference of her words demoralise me, but is it that I’m just at the wrong place at the wrong time to start a conversation?

Looked through our past chat logs, and realised with agony how much she has changed within this short period of time. It’s all that damned incident! Why must it be addressed so late? Why must it happen at that time? Why didn’t it just be over and done with 2 months ago?! Well, I suppose I need to give her time to accept me again, but she’s leaving real soon. How I do pray she’s going to accept me again before she leaves; how I do hope she’ll at least talk to me!

I feel helpless. This feeling isn’t pleasant, not at all. I’ve never felt this way before, never so strongly. One with such strong character, yet so unconditionally succumbing to the torture of romance willingly, how much more madly fallen can I be! The power of love is no doubt the most powerful in the universe. In front of this power, I am just so vulnerable. And when it works against me, I can do nothing about it.

This helplessness makes me feel weak…

The End of a Nightmarish Chapter

The Saturday evening settles down, with smells of steaks in passageways...

Not long after dinner, the shadow of the night gently looms over. As it gets deeper into the mysterious night, activities have halted, noises have ceased, everything around seems to have silently come to a standstill. I glazed out the windows. A sleek BMW glides through the serene landscape of the meandering street. The only audible sound is the calm melody of Paul Collier's "Slow down" echoing through the walls of the house. Tranquillity rules.

As the beautiful melody progresses, I can't help but reflect on the meaningful day that marks the end of a nightmarish chapter of my life. People say that "before guys go to sleep, they always think about the girl they truly care about." Well, to me, this is certainly true, because what I'm doing now is a testimonial to the thesis. Most heartily I’d like to tell you, that you are the one I care for the most. You may not know that right from day one, I had this strong, unknown sense of duty to to protect you for the rest of your life. As time passed, this sense of duty has motivated me to have the wish to shower you with love, to embrace you with warmth, and to give the whole of my heart to you.

Over the past few weeks, I have been really paranoid about what you’ve been thinking of me. I could sense that you have started to distance yourself from me. I desperately tried to cling on. I tried to test you on several occasions, hoping to discover that I was just thinking too much, but only to realise that my worst fear was getting closer to being reality. Those nights, I was always half asleep, thinking about you, thinking about how to regain your trust, thinking about what to say to you the next day. I’d abruptly wake up on several occasions, thinking that you have finally replied my message, only to realise that dreams are so vulnerable in front of reality. Every afternoon after school, I’d straightaway lay in bed and try to sleep, because only then, could I forget about how you have changed and soar in the skies of dreamland. Unfailingly, u always appear in my semi-conscious mind. Everything that I did reminded me of you. Then, I finally mustered up the courage to talk to you about it, I knew that if this goes on, we’d just remain the way we were and I’ll forever stay in misery. Truth be told, I was 100% honest to you, there’s nothing I have hidden, nothing I am hiding and nothing I will ever hide from you. You just mean so much to me..

As this chapter is marked with a full stop, i sincerely hope you'll start anew with me and pen a brand new chapter together. a lovelier one, a sweeter one, a better one.

To be absolutely honest, I am not sure if you have really forgiven me. Perhaps not yet, but with all of my heart, I hope you will. Because you are everything to me.

逝者如斯夫，不舍昼夜。

日复一日，年复一年，时间就这么在不知不觉中悄悄地逝流了。她给人留下了多少酸甜苦辣的记忆，多少的喜怒哀乐，多少的悔恨，多少的情... 就在这弹指一挥间，又一年与我们悄悄地不辞而别了。

我为她诚恳地努力，我为她痴迷地奋斗，我为她奋不顾身地拼搏了一年又一年。虽然几乎可用“一无所获”来形容，但我却从未后悔过，我对她充满赤诚的心也从未动摇过。哎，爱就是那么的荒谬，没有理由的无私，怪不得普希金会为了爱而葬身于决斗之中... 或许天算不如人算，我的命运就是如此。不，更乐观地说，或许是上天对我的诚心与耐心进行的一次考验 - 不断的狂风暴雨过后，就会出现彩虹。如果真是这样的话，我相信，不，我肯定我一定会胜任...

“人生像一本书，愚人哗啦哗啦地翻它，智者潜心细读” 在这一年里，你留下的是美好的回忆，还是悔恨呢？不管如何，过去的岁月都不会再回头了，未来的路，依然要走。我由衷希望你我的2009会是充满温情，充满意义，充满美好的回忆的一年...

1 year ago, I was in the national stadium of Singapore together with a capacity crowd of 55 000, seeing Raddy Avramovićand his lions through to the final of the ASEAN Football Championship as they defeated Malaysia 5-4 in the penalty shootout courtesy of Lionel Lewis's brilliant save. Other than a fraction of the stadium occupied by the Malaysians, the whole stadium erupted in jubilee.

Just moments ago, in the same stadium, Singapore were taking on a resiliant Vietnamese side in the semi-final of the same championship, but now known as the AFF Suzuki Cup. This time, however, the ending is the other way round. Other than a small crowd of Vietnamese fans, the whole stadium was left speechless with agony. To be fair, the Lions never deserved the bitter lost.

To dominate the whole of the game, but just fail to take the chances, and then lose by giving away a late goal is one of the worst senarios a team could ever get. That was what exactly happened to the unvigilant Lions. Having escaped with a goaless draw in the first leg of the tie which saw Vietnam dominate almost everything, head coach Raddy decided that that wasn't the way champions should play. He made 2 changes to the starting 11 by replacing Isa Halim with Sharil Ishak and Indra Sahdan with former top scorer Noh Alam Shah. The new game plan saw the Lions dominate the statistics of the game. It was Singapore all the way, till the 75th minute when a mistake by Singapore subsitute Ismail Yunos allowed Nguyen Quang Hai to give them a suckerpunch. The famous Kallang roar suddenly fell silent as the fans watched in disbelief. But the 55,000 spectators, mainly Singaporean fans, quickly threw their support behind the Lions again in the hope that they would hit the target. The Lions tried desperately but Heroic Vietnamese goalkeeper Duong Hong Son denied them the all important goal. The curtains fell for Singapore to be finalists for the 4th time in 6 years.

Singapore have improved significantly following the arrival of head coach Raddy Avramović. But their dissapointing defeat today is certainly not a step towards fulfilling their world cup dream. Raddy has got a lot more work to do with his lions before they can even make their mark in Asia. And that begins with learning lessons from today's loss.

Will Singapore come back stronger and make their mark in Asia? Or will they continue being unvigilant and still are unable to even be the best of Southeast Asia?

God's Coffee

A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university professor. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life.

Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups - porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some
expensive, some exquisite - telling them to help themselves to the coffee.

When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said:

"If you noticed, all the nice looking expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress.

Be assured that the cup itself adds no quality to the coffee. In most cases it is just more expensive and in some cases even hides what we drink.

What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the best cups... And then you began eyeing each other's cups.

Now consider this: Life is the coffee; the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain Life, and the type of cup we have does not define, nor change the quality of Life we live.

Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee God has provided us."

Better Team lost to Spurs

Depending on which side of the equation you are on, if the spuds are rejoicing and revelling in White Hot Lane, then the scousers must be wailing and wallowing in What Heart Pain. Be it Harry Houdini or not, it is a travesty of justice and for the second time in the space of a week, the final scoreline flattered the Lilywhites but the better team lost.

As what happened at the Emirates where Spurs were outfoxed and outfought, Liverpool did almost everything that is right but eventually succumbed to their own profligacies. Gerrard twice, Alonso and Kuyt could all have easily put the game beyond reach with barely an hour on the clock and banished the Lilywhites to a pummelling, but then football is always cruel and the better team do not always win.

Just as the Gunners had to learn it the hard way, it was a costly three points dropped for Pool albeit playing at three levels above that of Spurs. Dealt a sucker punch at the death where they had been dishing it out all too often to other teams this season, the lesson learned for Gerrard and the lads is if you do not kill of your adversaries when you are in the ascendancy, they will eventually come back to punish you.

To put things in perspective, Spurs were pretty disjointed, non-existent in midfield, toothless in attack and have been riding on their luck. Huddlestone and Zokora are just too laboured and lumbered to be dictating proceedings in the middle with the hopeful long balls upfield without any intents and purposes. Without an orchestrator, Modric despite playing in the hole find himself constantly having to drop deep to retrieve the ball to initiate play. Together with Bentley, they were about the only two Spurs' players to offer any form of threats towards an avenue for a goal.

If the first half was abject and absymal, credit Harry for turning it around bringing Pavlyuchenko in for the second to give Spurs a much needed punch upfront. Given Pool's profligacies in front of goal, it was no coincidence that Pav stole it at the death and the winning goal from Spurs was an accident waiting to happen.

Over at the Britannia, not only was Arsenal's title aspirations waning and diminishing, but more doom and gloom came with the injuries to Sagna, Walcott and Adebayor and the straight red for Van Persie. While David Kemp can spout all he wants about the Potters' beliefs and compactness in his post match interview, it will not detract from the fact that Stoke are nothing more than a bus parking and Delap's scud missiles team.

It was probably the worse i've seen of the Gunners this season and never for one moment did they look like finding the net though Clichy did nicked a consolation at the death. Outhustled, outbullied and outkicked, they were vulnerable in the aerial confrontations and were susceptible to the set pieces. Alumunia was a bundle of nerves and inept in his command of the 6 yard box, Adebayor was his usual wasteful self, Walcott was all pace but poor on the ball with his decision makings and with an out of sorts and non-firing Fabregas, it has all the makings of a recipe for disaster.

While we are at the Potters and for what it's worth, why has not any manager thought of having someone standing right in front of Delap when he is about to launch one of his many flat long range projectiles? Surely if you have a player leaping up and down in front of him to block, distract and irritate, that will serve to nullify the pace, the distance and the direction of his throws and negate its usefulness? Unless i'm mistaken, the rules say that you have to be 10 yards away from a corner kick but nothing about planting yourself and jumping in the face of the thrower.

If there is any consolation for the Gunners, they are only 6 points off the pace and with upcoming games against the other Big Three, there is still time and allowance to make up and keep their title hopes alive. However given their inconsistency and their lack of depth coupled with the key injuries, there cannot be much cause for optimism.

Down at King's Road and relief of the burden to maintain their unbeaten record, normal service was resumed at Stamford Bridge and the Mackems were the unlucky recipients on the end of a 0-5 walloping. Having said that, there was nothing unlucky about the hiding cos with barely an hour on the clock, it's obvious that it was man against boys and that Keano and his lads were never at the races.

Joe Cole's return adds a nice balance to the team down the right and with Lampard and Deco again at their imperious best pulling the strings in the middle, there was never a doubt the Blues will reign supreme at the Bridge. That Pool have a habit of dazzling but ending with a zilch, then Chelsea epitomises one where if they are razzling will end up victorious.

Ruthless and efficient, be it the long ball or the short crisp passes, the interchanging of positions, the on and off the ball running and an eye for the open spaces, it was a majestic performance from the Blues and they have certainly stamped their mark on the Premier League title and left an indelible impression on the neutrals. With a returning Drogba to bully and barge and Scolari the mastermind on the side, I have to say Chelsea is still the one to beat to win the Premier League.

Down at Old Trafford and the Theatre of Dreams, it was pulsating and mesmerizing just when you thought that the boys from Humberland will be in for a hiding. Though it may still be early days, I reckoned Phil Brown and the lads have shown that they are capable of punching above their weights and deserved their place in the Premier League.

Whatever Hull lacked in individual enterprise and team tactics, they make up for it with their doggedness, the determination and their willingness to chase for all causes. Despite a second defeat in a week, today's display have shown that their pair of wins in North London is no fluke and to be able to score 3 goals away at the Theatre is no mean feat.

What is impressive is even though they are aware of their limitations both technically and tactically, Phil Brown has set his team out to play organised attacking football and not like the many lesser lights contented to just sit back and defend.

With Marlon King and Daniel Cousin defending from the front ably asssted by Geovanni in the hole and Turner and Dawson looking decent and holding their own at the back, it is no longer a denigration and many are convinced that Hull are here to stay to play another season of Premiership football.

As for the Red Devils and after an indifferent start, things are perking up and they are gyrating and back in the groove again. Spearheaded by Berbatov and his insouciant touches and flicks, Ronaldo's mazy runs and predatory instincts, Rooney's goal scoring form and goals nicely spread out from all the other players, you wouldn't rule out the Red Devils from making it three successive Premier League titles in a row.

Moving down south and to Fratton Park, it's welcome Tony to the harsh reality of Premiership management. Thrown into the fray after the defection of Big Harry, it's been an inauspicious start for Adams and a second painful defeat in a row by the odd goal.

While conditions were treacherous and almost unplayable, things would have been much different had it not been for Pompey hitting the woodwork four times and a certain Papa Bouba Diop. Cos of an inexplicable volleyball spike at Anfield in midweek and another reckless diving tackle at Titus Bramble to make it two penalties conceded in the space of four days, that Tony Adams is now staring at 2 defeats in a row. Any wonder then that down south and in the cold and blustery Fratton Park, that Bouba Diop is the most hated man today.

超越自我

从街头上令人眼花缭乱的过人动作，到好几亿人的目光都在关注的世界杯决赛；从不服气的朋友之间一决高下的赛跑，到代表一个个民族的田径比赛，不管是因为民族凝聚力还是出于个人兴趣，体育不知不觉地已成为了人类不可或缺的一部分。作为一个从小就对体育颇有兴趣的我，很自然地对一些体坛盛事倍加关注。然而，一直以来只关心比分输赢的我，直到现在才突然发现比赛并不只是关于比分的输赢，而更重要的是那健全，高尚的人格和那锲而不舍，超越自我的精神的一种比试。

在最近刚刚结束的欧洲足球锦标赛里，有些球队永不言败的精神深深地打动了我，给我留下了深刻的印象。他们超越了自我，顽强地经受住了命运对他们的考验，使我非常地感动。同时，使我深深地体会到了‘世上无难事，只怕有心人’这句话的含义。颇有斗志的土耳其队在小组赛第一场比赛就惨败给朝气蓬勃的葡萄牙队，可是他们并没有放弃希望。在第二场对垒瑞士的比赛里，开始零比一落后，但他们一如既往，一路拼搏终于把比分逼成了一比一，又在比赛的最后一分钟把比分刷新成二比一。随后，他们对垒捷克时，虽然二比零落后，但在最后的十五分钟内，超越了极限，把比分反改写为三比二。随后，在八强里，他们与来势汹汹的克罗地亚队僵持了119分钟，在加时赛的最后两分钟对方进球了，但永不言败的土耳其队并没有放弃，竟在伤停补时里把比分搬平。随后在点球大赛中获胜。从土耳其队中我学到了一种锲而不舍的精神，只要有这种精神就能够创造奇迹！

此外，被抽选在“死亡之组”的荷兰队起初受到了许多人怜悯的叹息。因为这支优秀的球队必须在小组赛里面对世界冠军意大利和亚军法国的挑战。很多评论家都觉得很遗憾，因为这支极为优秀的球队很可能凄惨地败在意法大军残酷的刀下。不过他们不管对手是世界冠军还是亚军，只要是对手，就能以平等竞争的心态击败他们。凭着坚强的毅力与有创意的打法，荷兰队后卫给对方阻挡得水泄不通；中场敏锐的反应能力和精确完美的传球给对方弄得进退两难；而前锋则在对方后防线上穿梭自如，声东击西。大意轻敌的对手被弄得大乱方寸，荷兰队如鱼得水，一鼓作气，最终竟以三球优势分别击败了兵强马壮的两只“蓝军”。荷兰队不向困难低头的精神是全世界人都值得学习的。正所谓“困难是弹簧，你弱它就强”只要你有“强”的精神，所有的困难都有解决的方法。

其实这个世界上没有什么不可能的事。能把“不可能”变为“可能”，除了精神以外，还有我们的心理。自从欧文斯在1936年柏林奥运会上以10.2秒的成绩摘下100米短跑的金牌后，医生和专家们曾经说过，以人类的能力，在十秒以内跑完100米是不可能的。当时，大家都对此坚信不疑。直到吉姆.海因斯在1968年墨西哥奥运会上以9.9秒的成绩打破了这个纪录。当他跑完全程，回头看到屏目上9.9的字样时，他激动地说了一句话：“天啊！原来这扇门是虚掩着的！”是的，这扇门的确是虚掩着的。每个人都相信这扇门是打不开的，没有人有勇气尝试推开它。但是，只要一个人推开了这扇虚掩着的门，大家才会恍然大悟。果然，在那之后，很多运动员接二连三地刷新了那个纪录。如今，世界纪录竟然是9.72秒！奥林匹克格言是：更快、更高、更强。这个“更”字巧妙地代表了人类有史以来永不停息的进步，不断地被刷新的世界记录，不论多好还会更好，这就是体育的美妙之处！

所谓锲而不舍，金石可镂，锲而舍之，朽木不折。从各种体育比赛中可以看出，每个人，每个队都有其强弱点，谁都不能保证百分之百的永远赢，什么事都有可能发生。但只要有不舍弃的毅力，不言败的精神，不服输的念头，不低头的心态，就能不断地超越自我，把梦想变成现实，亲手推开这扇虚掩着的大门！(1447字)

Chelsea's long road to Moscow

The notion that Chelsea FC would be gracing the 2007/08 UEFA Champions League final seemed a distant one after the opening match of their campaign. Clawing their way back to claim a 1-1 draw against Rosenborg BK in front of a below-capacity crowd at Stamford Bridge, the London side looked every bit a team in trouble.

Mourinho departure

That impression was only magnified when inspirational manager José Mourinho left two days later. The fans were stunned and the press coverage unrelenting, not least when Avram Grant stepped out of the shadows to take over, but since then the Israeli has slowly but surely the team back into the domestic and European limelight. Reasons for optimism began to appear very quickly, in fact, with Grant's very first UEFA Champions League outing producing an impressive 2-1 win at Valencia CF.

Drogba goals

Didier Drogba struck the decider in that match, and the powerful Ivorian scored again as Chelsea followed up by defeating FC Schalke 04 2-0 at home.

The German side were then held to a goalless draw in Gelsenkirchen, allowing Grant's men to wrap up qualification with a satisfying 4-0 triumph away to Rosenborg in Trondheim, where Drogba helped himself to two goals. Chelsea's final Group B outing ended 0-0 with Valencia, guaranteeing them the strongest defensive record of the opening phase with just two goals conceded.

Sole defeat

Still few were betting on the club reaching Moscow, however, and their 3-0 aggregate win against Greek champions Olympiacos CFP in the first knockout round did little to change that. The quarter-finals provided a stiffer test and also what proved to be the team's only loss en route to Moscow as they succumbed 2-1 at Fenerbahçe SK, but an early Michael Ballack header calmed nerves in the second leg before Frank Lampard added another to confirm Chelsea's progress. That set up the club's fourth semi-final appearance in the last five seasons and their third against Liverpool FC, leaving the players desperate to end their losing streak against their Merseyside rivals.

Extra-time drama

The Anfield noise factor had seemed to swing previous encounters with the Reds, and Chelsea were suffering again when Dirk Kuyt scored 43 minutes into the opening leg. John Arne Riise's own goal deep into added time turned the tie on its head, though, giving the Blues the advantage going into the return game. They looked set to drive it home as Drogba gave Chelsea a first-half lead only for Fernando Torres to take the tie into extra time. There, a penalty from Lampard – less than a week after the death of his mother – and a sixth goal of the campaign for Drogba put the home side in command and, although Ryan Babel made it 3-2 late on, Chelsea had done enough to reach their first UEFA Champions League showpiece.

Good morning Principal, Vice Principals, teachers, staff and fellow students. I am Jiang Peicun from Raffles Institution, and I’m an old boy of Admiralty Primary.

Today, I’m here to share with you my experience in secondary school, as well as some motivation hopefully for your PSLE. While my partner David Chew will be talking about CCAs, facilities as well as the RI open house. But before that, I would like to congratulate all of you for your recent SA results. Not all of you might have done well, but no matter how’s your results, the SA serves a purpose. Allow me to start talking about life in secondary school, as I’ll be talking about your exams later on.

The change taken place in between primary school and secondary school is drastic. Especially if you go to the so-called “better” schools. The teachers would no longer spoon-feed you. Whether you do well or not depends a lot on yourself. You have to manage your time very well. Organisation skills and self-control are some of the most crucial values that can determine your future. You’ll have more than 9 subjects to handle and your teachers would not be lenient to you for handing in late works. In my school, there is a late work penalty system in which 1 to 2 days late will cost you 10% of the marks, 3 to 4 days 50%, and if you hand in late for 5 days or more, it’ll be a straight 0. But you’ll still have to hand in your work. Also, the teachers would not be hesitant to discipline you. This might make you hate the teachers at first, but after some time, you’ll find it amazing that your bad habits are gone. It is not that the teachers are not caring that they scold or discipline you, but it is because they want you to get independent and completely kick out your bad habits. Remember, spare the rod, and spoil the child. The starting of secondary one is just like the period when your mother let go of your hands after you have learnt how to walk. When you fall, you will feel painful externally and she will feel hurt internally, but for your own sake, she has to let go, if not, you’ll never be able to walk on your own.

You might hate you mom at first, but when you are able walk around like everyone else, you’ll thank her for that. To summarize that, secondary school is for you to get independent. You should know that you cannot rely on anything forever.

Next, let me move on to competition. The competition in RI is fierce but exciting. You’ll find that all your classmates are very competitive in every field. You’ll have to work very hard to overtake certain people. However, this competition is not the biological one that will bring harm to both parties. Instead, it pushes and motivates you to work harder and grow stronger. Without competition, life would be dull, motivation would be minimal, and improvements will be slow. Talking about that, it links me to a story:

There was once a river. On both sides of it, there were a population of sheep. Though the living conditions such as water or food on both riverbanks were similar, biologists have found out that the sheep on the eastern bank are much stronger and their rate of reproduction was much higher compared to the sheep on the western shore. Being curious, they took some sheep from both sides and swapped them. To their surprise, the sheep that were moved form east to west became fat and slow, while those moved to the east became strong and healthy. Then they realised that there were wolves on the eastern riverbank.

The sheep’s fear of the wolves drives them to run around all day long and reproduction is naturally better with healthier sheep. While on the other side, the lack of predators and competitors gave the sheep the freedom to do whatever they want. They eat and sleep the whole day, and that’s the reason why they were fat and slow. The choice is yours, whether you want to be on the eastern shore, or would you want to be on the western shore.

From this story, we can see that rivals do not only frustrate you, but motivates you and pushes you to do even better. That is why the healthy competition in RI will make you work hard, and eventually get better. Nevertheless, friends are friends after all, besides pushing you forward, they’ll help you in times of need. Many adults might say their best friends were made at secondary school. To me, that is certainly true. With friends by your side, there is never a dull moment. Besides schoolwork, CCA commitment will do to fill up your schedule. The trainings in your CCA can be gruesome, but eventually, that will definitely make you go higher, faster and stronger. Nevertheless, I’ve always enjoyed my RI days so far.

Finally, let’s talk about something related to you, exams. I came to know that your exams are just over. Some of you may have done well, while some may have not. For those who have done well, it shows that you are on the right track. Undeniably, the feeling of seeing hard work pay off is great. But of course it isn’t the time for you to loosen up. I’m sure that there is still a lot of room for improvement. There is a Chinese saying: There is no end for learning. So I don’t see any reason why you should stop working hard. Keep up the good work, and I assure you that the feeling of seeing your PSLE pass with flying colours is even better. On the other hand, for those of you who have not done well, it is time for you to pull up your socks, learn from your mistakes, and give your best to the next exam. You certainly shouldn’t go depressed.

Take it this way, if you get an easy paper and get full marks for every subject, would you be able to learn anything? Would you be able to find any room for improvements? To be frank, all these school exams are just small checkpoints to tell you about the condition of your car. While your final target is PSLE. We all know, PSLE isn’t far away. In fact you have only got less than 5 months to prepare. The nation’s future is in our hands, and your future is in your own hands. I would once again like to urge you to give everything you have, and work really hard. If you choose to loosen up now, when you grow up and look back, you’ll regret for life that you have not done enough when you were young. There is a famous quote: If time can reverse, half of the world’s people would have become great. This is totally true, because of the very fact that people do not treasure the time they have, and then tend to regret what they have not done.

This links me to yet another story: A boy and his sister lived on the 100th floor of a building. One day, the lift was under maintenance and they had to use the stairs. For the 1st 20 stories, the siblings were very energetic and danced their way up the stairs.
At the 20th story, the brother vowed to reach the 100th floor within ten minutes and decided to give their parents a surprise. He also decided to leave his haversack there to ease his climb. The journey between the 20th and the 40th story was not that fast, but with his sister joking with him, he managed to do it. Then they ran out of jokes and decided to get ideas from a book, but realised that the book is in the haversack. They thought they were getting exhausted, but used every method and climbed till the 60th floor. Then the brother realised that he was too lazy and did not bring enough water with him at the 20th floor. But they did not give up and finally reached the 100th floor. Then the brother realised to his agony that he has not brought his key.

This story shows that for the first 20 years of your life, time passes by very quickly and you did not really treasure those time. Then, you set yourself wild targets, but you are too lazy and tend to slack. Until you reach 40 years old, you begin to realise that you’re getting old and your body is no longer so energetic. At 60 years old, you look back with nostalgia and realise that you’ve not done enough at 40 years ago. Then finally in the end, you realise with agony that none of your wild targets have been achieved and you’ve wasted the whole of your life without an ambition.

Well, I know time is running out. But lastly, let me remind you that the footsteps to glory are already there. All you have to do is to follow them. But whether you get side tracked depends on your self. If you think it is impossible do achieve certain things, you are totally wrong. Doctors and experts have once claimed that it is impossible for men to run 100m within 10 sec, that was believed until Jim Hines stepped up in the 1968 Olympics and completed the run in 9.95 seconds. Adidas says Impossible is nothing. If He can do it, why Can’t You? The best way to predict the future is to create it. There’s no point wondering, what if I fail my PSLE? What if I cant get into that school? What would I be in the future? All these worries are pointless if you don’t try to create the future.
While what matters most is how you see yourself. If you think you are a lion, you will be one; but if think you are a cat, you'll be a failure. Every grain of rice requires the sweat of the farmers, every single mark requires the hard work from you. United as one, you shall fill your heart with LOYALTY towards Admiralty Primary, do your teachers and their hard work JUSTICE by not letting them down, and never forget your life long value, INTEGRITY (starting with not cheating). At the same time, be GRACIOUS young ladies and GALLANT young men with immense creativity and ENTERPRISE. ENDURE for the last few months before your final stop in primary school, summon up all your COURAGE, and CHALLENGE yourself to the maximum. History shall be made. And what is the drive behind all these? It’s your knowledge with humanity. Thank You!

Six years ago, Kanu and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink were battling it out in the 2002 FA Cup final, as Arsenal beat Chelsea to lift the coveted trophy.
On Saturday, both strikers will line up against each other once again, as Barclays English Premier League side Portsmouth take on English Coca-Cola Championship side Cardiff in this year's final.
As they approach the latter stages of their illustrious careers, both veteran hitmen will be hoping to add another major honour to their impressive CVs, as one of the lesser-fancied teams has a rare chance to win this most famous competition.
Former Arsenal striker Kanu has relaunched his career on the south coast following a frustrating spell at West Brom, while Hasselbaink has also proved to be a popular signing since moving to Wales - and both teams will be looking to their experienced forwards for inspiration if they are to win the competition.
Kanu, with all his tricks, has always been more flair than firepower and is a totally different proposition to the sheer physical presence of Hasselbaink.
However, the qualities shown by the two has meant they each have had a massive influence in their club's success this season.
Hasselbaink, despite giving five years away to the Nigerian, has surprisingly spent double the amount of minutes on the pitch this year (2855 to 1456), although Kanu's participation in the African Nations Cup is partly responsible for that.
Neither striker, despite their reputations, can be described as being prolific when it comes to goals this season.

Hasselbaink, who still adopts a shoot-on-sight policy as his 55 shots on target suggests, has scored the most goals with a return of seven in 36 appearances.
Kanu has managed to get on the scoresheet four times despite only having 16 efforts on goal in 25 appearances.
Kanu's most impressive stat is his 231 passes completed in the opposing half, and his seven successful dribbles show that he has lost none of the finesse he has always been associated with.
Yet, for all his ability, perhaps a higher number of assists than four would have been expected from the former Ajax and Inter frontman, as would the number of crosses he produced - again only four.
To his credit, however, Kanu has made 23 tackles so far this season, of which 11 were successful.

Compare these stats to Hasselbaink's and the big Dutchman's make impressive reading, proving his commitment to the cause ahead of Saturday's showpiece.
He, like Kanu, has shown a willingness to pass the ball to his team-mates, with a whopping 319 passes completed in the opposing half.
Hasselbaink has also put in 15 crosses from wide positions this season, but it is the number of tackles that he has attempted (45 with 20 won) that will have Portsmouth's defenders watching their backs on Saturday.
Overall, it was hardly a surprise, but Cristiano Ronaldo has been confirmed as the highest-ranked player in this season's Actim Index, the official player ratings system of the EPL.

The Manchester United star helped fire the Red Devils to a 10th EPL title at the weekend and has been the shining light in the division this term.
His season's haul of 838 points from 34 appearances smashed last season's winner Didier Drogba's total of 628 points from 36 matches out of sight.
Averaging 25 points per game, the Portuguese ace ended the campaign 108 points clear of closest rival Emmanuel Adebayor, who would also have ended top of last season's Index with 730.
It was a phenomenal effort from Sir Alex Ferguson's most-prized asset.
He had a monstrous 108 shots on target - 39 more than closest rival Wayne Rooney - netting 31 goals in the top flight.

Fernando Torres celebrated his first season in English football by claiming third place.

Hello, This is my post on my cls blog, commentating on our inter cls soccer match against another cls. Ha. nth else to post...

Guys,

I'm proud to announce that 1J showed immense fighting spirit, from 1-0 down, 3- nil down on agg, we came back and flipped the game around, with convincing a final scoreline of 6-3.

Moments after kick off, Jun Won's delightful dribble created a good chance for Size 0 Jie Min. However, due to his size and strength, he was easily crowded out. Moments ltr, Yi Rui's Goalkeeping blunder gave them an easy lead. The next kick of the game was from the centre, when i smashed the ball to the bottom left corner with a small curl but immense power. James couldn't get near to the stunning strike, and from the midfield to the bottom corner of the net, and that was how the flood gate opened. We had a few corner kicks, but none of which was converted. Just as our morale was quite low, being 3-1 down on agg, Matt Lee blasted a shot a few meters from the goal, and we were only one goal away.

A few min ltr, My free kick pierced through the crowded wall and struck right to the centre of the goal. However, James' brilliant figertip save denied the goal. Nevertheless, the power of the shot was too much for him and the ball bounced towards the post instead of away from it. Then, Samuel made an amazing clearance on the line and the ball hit the post after his body. Not long after, a through ball from Matt Lee gave me the chance to draw level, but again, it's the thickness of the post that came to their rescue. Nothing can describe our feelings better than the word-frustration.

Yi Rui got a shot for once, but clarence's amazing block saw his shoes fly off like a lark.

Just then, Matt Lee delivered a corner kick right to Jun Won's head, and he didnt disappoint. A flying header put the game to when it started. 3-3. We worked hard and just couldn't find the winning goal. A handball from Clarence gave us a penalty. They asked me to take it, but I was quite tired and pssed the chance to Siyu. However, Andy took the chance. But his agonising, stupid miss gave them a huge sigh of relief.

It didnt take long b4 another handball from their team gave us the best chance to put ourselves in front. And this time, Siyu slotted it home with easy. 1J were flying, turning the game around. The free flowing of goals did not end there. Despite being a great goalie, James failed to save JTan's one on one shot. And it was 5-3. In between that, James pulled off some miraculous saves from Jun Won, Jiemin, Matt Lee, JTan, and Me.

In the closing moments of the game, My goal kick curved right to the top corner, but James' amazing dive saw his fingertips touch the ball away. Not long before the end, JTan's through ball provided me with the chance for a personal second. And I too did not disappoint.

6-3 the final score, as 1J are prepared for a winning streak.

A Short story around 500 words about HUMAN NATURE, that was what i was supposed to do... This is the draft of the essay... I know, whatever i write, it's somehow related to football... Well, this time what? the competition inside chelsea for a place in the starting 11?... Enjoy!

This is for you, Frank!

“My fellow Pupils,” announced the headmistress proudly “it’s time for the result of the National Inter-school Art Competition. Our two participants have done us proud. They had won a Bronze and the gold!” Every student cheered wildly, except me.

I had put my heart and soul into my painting. It was a big painting of my best friend, Frank Lamps and I. This was the first time I had put so much effort into an art piece, for I knew I was not painting for myself. I was painting for Frank.

Frank and I are the best of friends and we are close neighbours. In school, we joined the same CCA-The Art Club. Every Saturday morning, the two of us would never fail to go to the big river near my house to enjoy the beautiful scenery while painting. However, I am not quite sure if we will ever go there together again.

Two months ago, we went painting as usual. We were painting a scene of the beautiful riverside when I started talking about the coming competition. I said, “Joe is bound to be one of the two chosen ones to represent the school. I wonder which one of us would be the lucky one.” Frank suddenly dropped his paintbrush and looked very uncomfortable. His voice faltered as he spoke:

“Ballack, I don’t want to keep it from you any longer. Mr Grant had already told me that Joe and I were chosen.”

My jaw dropped. All my wild dreams of being the national art champion were completely shattered. If only I had practiced harder, If only they wanted three to represent the school, if only… if only Frank were not such a good painter!

Green with envy, I smashed my painting onto the ground. I was so overwhelmed with disappointment that when Frank came over to comfort me, I pushed him away roughly. He lost his balance and grabbed me for support. We screamed as we both fell into the river.

The next thing I remembered was lying on the hospital bed. Friends and relatives who came to visit me told me all that they knew. Frank had saved me, risking his own life, as he was not a good swimmer. His knees were injured and he tore his upper arm muscles while trying to save me. Nevertheless, I was fine.
I felt exceedingly ashamed of myself. I had put Frank’s life in danger through my unreasonable, selfish behaviour. Yet, he had saved me. As a result of his injury, Frank was unable to take pat in the competition. This made me feel worse than ever. I resolved to make it all up for him and vowed to give whatever I won to him.

As if in a daze, I hear my name. My classmates dug me and exclaimed, “Hey! You’ve won the gold!”

Beaming with pride, I almost dashed to the stage. The headmistress shook my hand and presented me the medal and cash prize.

“Being a gold-medallist, do you have anything to say?” the headmistress inquired humorously, handing me the microphone.

From the corner of my eyes, I somehow caught a glimpse of Frank applauding for me. I was overwhelmed. My medal was glistening, but my eyes glistened more. With a gamut of emotion, I tried to keep my voice as calm as I could:

“This is for you, Frank!”

Giving up

Agony, Nostalgic, Sadness, Desperation... I dont think any words can thoroughly describe what i was going through these two days... However, none is worse than the feeling of letting go of sth you love...

Yesterday, my string ensemble played Canon in D (the last song on this page). That was how it all started. That was the song that made me fill with all the emotions... That song reminded me of someone very special. This person played an important, or perhaps not so important to you, part in my life... Unknowningly, That person affected me strongly. Upon hearing the song, I couldn't help but to feel really really empty. Really really sad... and all the feelings just gushed out... My eyes were glistening, filled with tears. But none dropped. I did not sleep well last night, or perhaps did not even sleep, thinking about that person...

Perhaps it's God's will, perhaps it's my reward for not sleeping, or perhaps it's just pure coincidence, I met this person today. I did not play well for the soccer match going on, I could not concentrate on anything... All that was in my mind was... I guess you know what. This person changed quite a lot, since i last met her. Nevertheless, it was still that lovely feeling, that warmth, that agonising yet delightful feeling... This person taught me a very important fact: When it's time to let go of sth, you have to let go. You might have the sweetest of memories, the nicest of feelings. You might not have treasured all those, like me. But it's just too late, it's too late to do anything about it. When it's gone, it's gone. Yes, gone, and will never come back. It doesn't matter how you feel, it doesn;t matter what you think, your desperation, despair, helplessness and no matter how strong your desire is to not to let go whatsoever, it just doesn't matter. You just have to let go. Reality is cruel; the truth is painful; fate is merciless, but you just have to face it. there's nothing you can do about it. When sth doesnt belong to you, it doesn't. Perhaps all you can do is to let the memories become eternal, and keep quiet, and wait...... and perhaps work hard for the next oppotunity to come... as said :"Oppotunities are always for the prepared"

At this point of time, you have two options to choose from: to forget about everything, be optimistic, and move on in life, or mull over it for the whole of your life, be an introvert and pessimist, have some strange habbits and treat everyday of your life as a torture... fortunately, or perhaps unfortunately, I chose neither. I chose the middle. I din know if this is right or wrong, but the decision is made, I cant do anything to change it. Whenever I see or think of this person, I would have this strange feeling, the desire, the crave... But helpless, I can only see this person proceeding happily on with her life... When there is tears, swallow them; when there is a strong desire, hide it; when a scream couldn't wait to come out, just wave it away... So much to reflect, so much to think about, so much to say, but there's simply nth I can do... Other than to so called "emo", well, not that bad...

Whatever it is, there is always high and low tides in the magnificent sea; there is always half moon and full moon in the dark, lonely night; When there's Spring, there's always Summer and winter... everything has high's and low's... Without the tides, there wouldn't be the charming shells; without the half-moon, there'll never be the beautiful myth of the lady on the moon; Without the winter, well, the whole world would be Singapore... Nevertheless, the rainbow is always after a storm. Never before has one came before a storm... Persevere, yes, persevere through that storm, and a rainbow is there waiting for you, or more precisely, me. No matter how helpless you are, no matter how desperate or "hopeless" or whatsoever you feel, you've always got a rainbow, a beautiful one, one that will make you feel that everything done is worth it. Sometimes, its hidden behind the dark clouds, they'll one day disappear; sometimes, it's because you're aren't patient enough to wait for the end of the storm, once it does, you've got one; and sometimes, it's just the tears in your eyes that blurs your vision. Whatever it is, dry your eyes, persevere, and there's always a rainbow waiting for you! Viva forever!

mein Idol ist Miroslav Klose. Ich denke, dass er talentiert und charismatisch ist.
Ich liebe Deutschland Fußball-Nationalmannschaft, Chelsea und Bayern München. Ich trinke gern Cola. Ich finde Fußball, Federball und Tennis sehr toll. Ich mache viel Sport. Ich spiele Fußball, Federball und Basketball. Aber ich spiele Tennis nicht. Eigentlich mache ich regalmäßig Fitness-training und gehe jeden joggen. Ich möchte ja fit sein.
Was noch? wenn ich Zeit habe, spiele ich meine Violine. Das ist super!
Wirklich höre gern ich Klassische Musik, vor allem mit Mozart, Beethoven, Bach... kann ich toll relaxen. Ich lese gern Bücher. Aber ich lerne nicht so gern.

《让失去的变为可爱》

一个老人在行驶的火车上，一不小心从窗口把刚买的新鞋弄掉了一只，周围的人都为他感到婉惜，不料那老人立即把第二只鞋也从窗口扔了出去，让人大吃一惊。

4.一个影响我最深的人

姜沛村，1J, 莱佛士书院

在茫茫人海中，在我成长的十三年里，接触到的人和事不计其数。但是，真正在我脑海里留下点滴痕迹的却屈指可算。然而，有一个人对我的影响会永恒的刻在我的脑海之中，这个人在我心中则永远是最伟大的。她，就是我的妈妈。

我的妈妈是一位贤惠朴素的中年妇女。她有着一头整洁乌黑的头发，她那两道薄薄的眉毛下镶着一双尖锐而有神的小眼睛。妈妈的眼睛永远是黑白分明，永远透着坚定的神情，但有时会射出严厉的光芒，那是在我做错事的时候，她那犀利的眼神可以穿透我的内心。而每当我有一点点成绩时，妈妈的眼睛里就会闪烁无限的喜悦。听爸爸讲妈妈曾经是中国一所名牌大学的高材生，从妈妈架着的一副红色眼镜和对周围人和善的笑容可以看出妈妈是一位很有修养，气质不凡的人。在我的成长过的每一步都倾注着妈妈的心血，而最重要的，是妈妈教会了我在逆境中保持坚忍不拔品格和面对压力勇往直前的拼搏精神。如今，我能春风满面的穿上莱佛士书院洁白的校服，一半，不，一大半的功劳应该是属于她……

从小，我在中国靠着不错的天资, 无需太多的努力，从幼儿园到小学一直稳拿第一名。几乎每次考试都胜券在握。尤其是英文，对我来说更是小菜一碟。

在我二年级的时候，妈妈把我带到了新加坡。起初，我感到非常的兴奋，并对我的未来充满希望。我几乎迫不及待的想要上学。但是，接下来在学校里的日子，对我来说却像是一场恶梦……

我就像出了水的鱼儿一样，根本不知道这里学校的习俗。老师所说的话我一句也听不懂。每当老师在课堂提问我时，我的心都会颤抖一下。她到底是在骂我，还是在提问我呢？正所谓：“观海才知天地宽，读书方知学识浅。”我顿时感到自己的英文差得太多了，根本无法跟新加坡的学生比。休息节时，同学们说得也都是英文。我什么都听不懂，没办法，只好坐在食堂里发呆。我多么希望自己能像他们一样，自如的用英文交流啊！从此我心灰意冷，对自己完全丧失了信心，真想自暴自弃了……

妈妈似乎看穿了我的心思。她告诉我，每个人刚来时都不会英文，但只要多听，多读，多练习，英文自然就好了。她还语重心长地告诉我：“你不要着急，学一种语言要花一些时间的。虽然你的底子不是很好，但只要功夫深，铁棒也能磨成针啊！”她还给我讲了好多好多自强不息的故事，使我顿时找回了信心。
她还决定，每天晚上给我补习。虽然她起早贪黑，工作非常忙碌，但仍然每天坚持教我英文和数学。妈妈还给我买了几本课外书，让我每天做一点，第二天她在上班的路上和午餐时间帮我批改。晚上回家时，她就会把我所有不会的东西彻底讲明白，并给我出一些类似的题让我做。

起初，我以为妈妈的英文非常好，我学的东西对她来说不算什么。直到有一天夜晚，我半夜突然醒来时，发现妈妈在书桌上点着台灯，一边读我的课本，一边查字典。我呆呆得看着妈妈模糊的背影，两道热泪不由得夺眶而出。我跳到妈妈身旁，紧紧的拥抱着她。她则微笑着对我说：“只要你能进步，妈妈牺牲一点不要紧……”
就这样，我的英文水平渐渐提高了，成绩也自然进步了。到了后来，我几乎每次考试都是全班前几名。同学们对我的态度完全不同了。我仿佛从一支不懂事的小鸟，变成了一只雄鹰。然而，如果没有妈妈在后台的支持，这一切都是不可能的。

在妈妈给我完美的摇篮里我不知不觉地长大了，柜子里堆满了各种耀眼夺目的奖杯，然而，妈妈却老了许多，瘦了许多，头上开始长出了几根银丝般的白发，原来细嫩的前额也被无情的岁月刻上了一道道深深的皱纹。

啊！母亲是多么伟大的啊！她对我的影响实在是太大了。谁言寸草心，报得三春晖？我立志一定要报答妈妈，不辜负她对我的期望，做一个对社会有用的人，为国家做出贡献！

Why Must I Not Be Late For The Science Practical Test?

Dear Mrs. Tan,
First of all, i would like to show my sincere appologies and heartfelt regret for being late for today's practical science lesson at the physics laboratary. The class did not know that we were supposed to go to the physics lab until Glen stood up and told us we were supposed to do so. He later said that someone from another class came into our class and told him we were supposed to go to the lab. At that time, a lot of people did not hear Glen telling the class what the boy had said. By the time all of us got ready, we were already quite late. On the way to the lab, some of our fellow classmates were lagging far behind the ones at the front, so the ones at the front walked for a while and waited for the others to catch up. and thus, we were eventually very late for your class. I know that all your scoldings were for our sake. You wanted us to do well, in fact you wanted us to excel in science. But instead of appreciating your efforts, we went late for the class and did not seem to show any appology. We had disappointed you. So it is absolutely normal for you to get angry. So now, i am doing my part to sincerely sppologise to you for all that. Although our appologies came in late, I hope they will somehow ease your anger.

After the appologies, let me now start to answer your question: Why Must I Not Be Late For Science Practical Test?

Firstly, punctuality is one of the core values that all Rafflesians should have. Unless with special reasons, no one should be excused for being late for the science practical test. We all belong to Raffles Institution now, and we all should obey all rules and regulations RI has.

Secondly, the late comer will be holding the whole class as the teacher-in-charge would not want to start the test unless the whole class is present. Instead, the teacher would have to wait for the late comer to be present before everyone starts taking the test. Thus, one late comer will be the one holding the whole class up and wasting both the teacher and his fellow classmates' time. Time is one of the most precious things in the world, so why waste it? That is one of the reasons why we should not be late

Thirdly, being late will somehow affect our results. The late comer would have to receive stares from his classmates who are punctual. That will do to erode his confidence. Then, he will have to make a hasty preparation for the test as there will be no more time for him to waste. In fact his brain might not even be fully ready for the test even after the papers have already been given out. In the end, his results will somehow get affected negatively and that is certainly something we do not hope will happen to us. We already excelled to come to RI, I am sure we all would want to continue striving for excellence. I know all these because of a personal experience:

When I was in primary school, i never failed to top the class and school in every science exam. But during one of the exams, I woke up late in the morning. I had neither my breakfast nor bath, before hurrying to the school. By the time I dashed my way to the school, the exam was already going to start. So I made the hastiest of preparations after getting to my seat, while receiving some hostile stares from others. By then, I was still half asleep. I asked the teacher if i could take it another day, but all i have got was her merciless "No". Left with no choice, I sat for the paper sheepishly.

When I got back my paper a week later, I was utterly shocked seeing all the stupid and careless mistakes that i have never made before in science tests. I lost a total of eight precious marks due to all that. However, I was ranked second in class for that exam, with seven marks behind the first. That well costed me my 100% record for the best in science. To make matters worse, I finished second in class for the overall marks, with 3 points behind the first. It was just a late wake up. But it mercilessly costed me my "Best in science" , "First in class" and "Best in standard" Titles. I learnt my lesson.

From then on, i had never been late for any examinations, tests or competitions organised either by the school or by other organisations.

Finally, I would once again like to claim that I will never be late for any tests. Everyone contributes his part and we shall make RI a better place for one and for all. Even if some of us had a habbit of being late in primary school, we all are now Rafflesians. All Rafflesians should-or I shall say must have strong value systems, and punctuality is one of the basic of the basic for us, because we are all The Hope Of A Better Age, Auspicium Melioris Aevi. So, fellow Rafflesians, let us all play our part and contribute. Together, With the wings equipped by our teachers, we shall soar steadily to greater heights!

一次难忘的迎新露营

姜沛村，1J, 莱佛士书院， 26/1/2008

能穿上莱佛士书院洁白的校服应该是很多学生的梦想。因为这所雄立狮岛185年的学府聚集了国家的希望，社会的栋梁，新一代的精英，人才... ... 很幸运地，我选择了莱佛士书院，她也选择了我。报名那天是我第一次去莱佛士书院。她给我的第一印象就是——一个充满生机与希望的高雅学府。然而，接下来的迎新露营则给我留下了更刻骨铭心的印象... ...

在学生主席的演讲中，我们得知学校将在开学的第二天举办一个迎新露营。我们也收到了一个列表，告诉我们要带的东西。
迫不及待的我当天就把所有的东西准备好了。

从那天到开学那段时间似乎过得异常的慢。我无奈的等啊，等啊... ... 终于，露营那天到了。今年露营的题目是——“拉赛尔”——让火焰燃烧起来！“拉赛尔”是凯尔特的语言，意思是火焰。

随着学生主席精彩的开幕演讲，露营开始了。第一个项目是学跳舞。学生领导们交了我们一个生机勃勃的舞蹈，使我们感到充满能量。学了几首新歌之后，礼堂的气氛顿时沸腾了起来。

不知不觉地，已经是下午了。下午的活动主要是“车站游戏”。每个“车站”，都有一个有教育性的任务，当一个半完成任务后，就会收到一条线索，暗示下个“车站”的所在处。其中，令我最难忘的是“电话号码游戏”。在那个游戏里，我们班必须组成一个横排，一起往前小跑，跑到一个号码后，再跑回起点。如果有一个人落在后头，那么整个班就要重新开始。那个游戏是我领悟到了“雪如逆水行舟，不进而退”的含义。每当我放慢一点，我就会发现自己落在别人后面。这也让我意识到，在着激烈的竞争下，千万不能因为克制不了自己的惰性而放慢脚步。我们要时时刻刻的努力，提升自己。

吃过晚餐，我们玩“战争游戏”。全年级被分成三组，每组有三个旗。要想取胜，攻击者必须把对方的起偷走。攻击者要手拉手组成横排，一个横拍至少是个人。其中一个要把一半的衣服塞到裤子里，如果衣服被拉出来了，那么那是个人就“死”了。防御者也一样，不过最少三个人一组。我们对首先用了调虎离山计，接着又声东击西。不一会儿，就巧妙的偷走了一个旗。对方见势不妙，想使空城计，没想到我们将计就计，又成功的抢走了一个旗。另外一组则“打”的比较保守，一直死守老家。后来，我的对因为得意忘形，结果“大意失荆州”，丢了宝贵的三个旗。唉！真是骄兵必败啊！

第二天上午，我们打水仗。在“打水仗”里计划很重要。每个班都有限量的水球，我们必须使这把水球扔到对方的一个背报纸裹住的人。有些班一丢起来就没完，结果不一会儿就没有水球了。可怜的他们只得欲哭无泪地防御了！这让我们学到了不管做什么，事先都要做好计划。

当晚，学生领导们为我们组织了别开生面的“恐怖之夜”。我们看了恐怖电影后，要五个人一组，走“恐怖路”。“恐怖路”漆黑的，不过地上有荧光棒给我们带路。半路上会有人扮鬼出来下我们。开始，我们总是声嘶力竭的尖叫。不过后来，我们手拉手走时就不是那么怕了。啊！有朋友的感觉就是好！当晚我们睡觉前，学生主席告诉我们“恐怖之夜”的目的不是要吓我们，而是要我们学会如何克服恐惧，同时也使我们的感情更深。

第三天的焦点就是“启蒙走”了。每个班的人必须用衣服遮住眼睛，把手放在前一个同学的肩膀上。最前面的人是我。我在“黑暗的世界”里摸索着，一步一探地走啊，走啊。半路上有桌子椅子，每当我提到一个东西，我的心都会颤抖一下... ... 最终，我们终于走到了目的地。克服了种种困难，得到成果的感觉真好啊！

在闭幕式校长的演讲时，他告诉我们我们的前景是美好的。我们不该只会学习，要全面地发展。他的演讲的最后一句话是书院的座右铭：新一代的希望。给我留下了深刻的印象。

天下无不散之宴席，三天的露营一眨眼就结束了。在这烈日下的汗水，天真浪漫的笑声，与魂不附体时的尖叫声中，我们之间的感情不知不觉加深了，我们不知不觉地更爱莱佛士书院了... ...

这宝贵的三天也给我了很大的启发。在无形中我们发觉了要一起努力，要志同道合地同甘共苦，走向更美好的未来！我们是“新一代的希望”！让我们点燃心中的火焰，一起用老师们给与我们宝贵的知识与力量，从一个个不懂事的小鸟，变成一只只胸怀大志的雄鹰，展翅搏击，飞得更高，更远，给完美！“拉赛尔”——让火焰燃烧起来吧！

From Registration To The Last Day OF Der Camp... 1st day, we had Station games In Which We Muz Complete the games at each station n then, they'll give us a clue to where to find the next station masters... To Win, U Muz Complete As Many Challenges A Possible...N War games, In which the whole sec 1 is devided into 3 grps... each grp has 3 flags n one banner... we muz guard them, to attack, we muz hold hands n form into at least a line of 10, one of them will take off his shirt n put half of it into his shorts, he's the life of the 10, to kill him, the defenders muz pull out his shirt... Defending Teams muz Form into at least lines of 3, similarly, they oso hav a "Half-naked"...

2nd day, water gamez, Where By We Muz Throw Water Bombs At The Newspaper Man Of Each Cls... Bishan Hike, Similar to Station games, but this time its outside sch n muz walk damn far... n for fright night, We Watch Ghost movies n go for a trail in the Dark sch... We Muz Follow The route of light sticks to progress... halfway through there'll be scary things like PSLs Screaming suddenly From Behind the walls...

on der 3rd day, we had walk of initiation, in which we muz use our shirts to blindfold ourselves, then we hold eachother's shoulders n walk around the sch as a class... there'll be PSLs telling u wads in front of u... n there'll be PSLs spilling water at u... n they say its an Air-con Leak! N As for Raffles Trail, we went around the sch to know at all the ccas...
